Professor of music at Oxford.
Samuel Sebastian Wesley (1810-1876)

Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy (1809-1847)
Prolific composer of orchestral, vocal, piano and organ music. He was a frequent and popular visitor to Britain.
Amongst the British composers runs a connecting thread - Felix Mendelssohn. Sterndale Bennett was a lifelong friend, Ouseley is known to have played a duet with Mendelssohn whilst only 6 and Wesley's father Samuel was also a friend of Mendelssohn. As Sullivan studied in Leipzig one suspects he was influenced by Mendelssohn's music.
